NB* For First year students only, when you connect to Eduroam you will have connection with restricted capacity until the end of March 2023 and then disconnected if you do not opt in.
If you do opt in, you will have full access to university services.

Step-by-step guide


  1. Connect to the “RegisterMe” wi-fi network
  2. Open internet browser and enter the following website and press enter: https://registerme.sun.ac.za .Provide University username and password and press “Sign in”.
  3. Select your preferred language.
  4. Click the checkbox next to confirm and select the “Confirm” button.
  5. On the following screen, click the checkbox next to pay and select the “Pay” button. Kindly select the “Register” option at the end of the RegisterMe page.
    • Note: This cost will be deducted/added to your student account. 

  6. Click on the “Eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool” link to download the Eduroam CAT.
  7. Click on the blue Eduroam button that appears on the screen below. Before selecting “Continue”, open your Chrome browser, and browse to this website: chrome://network#general
  8. Click on the “Choose File” option as indicated below to import the ONC file from Downloads.
    • Note: The import is silent. The new certificate will be automatically added to the Eduroam network settings. 

  9. Select “Continue” to proceed. 
  10. Connect to the Eduroam wi-fi network and select the Server CA certificate as indicated below. Under identity, provide your university @sun.ac.za email address and password.
  11. Click on “Connect” to successfully connect to Eduroam.

    • Under the wi-fi network list, Eduroam should indicate “Connected”. You should now be able to browse and use the internet on your device.
